‘Mon Youth should have military training’, says NMSP Chair Nai Hongsar

-

Mon youth should have the basic military training, although there is no serious arm dispute following the inking of nationwide ceasefire agreement.

Nai Hongsar, the chair of New Mon State Party (NMSP) stated as above in an interview for Mon News Agency’s TV Program for the video program of the 9th Anniversary of Mon Youth Day, held on December 28, 2020.

“It is okay not to have the young people joined the military training during this ceasefire in our area. They can do their business. But they should have the basic military training. This is for them to be able to take the responsibility when the issues come up,” said Nai Hongsar.

Every country in the world has the law that young people, when they reach at stated age, should join the military training. Thai people must join the military training when they reach 21 years old. In the past, during monarchy era, when there was war, the young people, at mature stage, should join the army. If no one joined the military, but the country lost the war, it would become under someone’s slave. Thus, for the protection, everyone’s responsible for that, continued Nai Hongsar.

Nai Hongsar also said that during the parliamentary democracy government in the past, although there was no state provided yet, NMSP could have thousands of men joining its army. With that, the government had to recognize Mon State i 1974. That’s what the young people nowadays should know.
