-

On March 19, at around 6:00 a.m., the maritime security team of the military junta conducted an inspection of a suspicious boat named Zwe Khit San southwest of Kulakoke Island, Ye Township, Mon State. During the inspection, they discovered 78 Rohingyas on board and subsequently arrested them.

Among the arrested individuals are 44 men and 34 women, who had embarked on the journey to Malaysia from a refugee camp in Bangladesh.

Sources close to the military junta have indicated that the detained Rohingyas are currently held on Kulagut Island. Following the completion of investigations, they will be transported to Ye Township and prosecuted under the Immigration Act.

In 2023 alone, the military council apprehended at least 500 undocumented Rohingyas across various townships in Mon State, including Thanpyuzayat, Mudon, Mawlamyine, among others.
