Military junta blocks roads, conducts extensive search in Ye Township following shooting incident

According to local residents, following a shootout between the People’s Defense Forces and the military junta in Ye township, Mon State, junta forces conducted a search operation.

On November 23rd, at around 1:00 p.m., three members of the junta arrived and opened fire on two members of the People’s Defense Forces, located at a cold store on 13th Street, Yan Myo Aung Ward, Ye Township. The two sides exchanged gunfire.

“Two members of the junta came on a motorcycle, and learned that PDF members were drinking drinks at that shop. The junta immediately came and shot them, hitting one in the hand, and there was a lot of blood. The PDF members shot back and hit some of them. After finishing, he ran away before even taking the bike,” said a resident of Ye.

The shooting took place within minutes, after the People’s Defense Forces retreated, more than 30 junta forces arrived at the scene. They closed all the roads around the area where the shooting occurred and conducted a house-to-house check.

“There was a shooting, and the junta arrived in three cars. They went door-to-door and checked. The roads are also closed,” another resident said.

Three members of the junta and one PDF member were wounded from the shoot out.

According to residents, the injured junta members were transported to the Ye District Public Hospital by a social assistance group.

In Ye Township, where martial law has been declared, there are frequent armed skirmishes between the People’s Defense Joint Force operating in the region, and junta forces.
