Military Junta Implements Stricter Guest List Checks in Ye Township Neighbourhoods

According to residents, in certain neighbourhoods in Ye Township, Mon State, soldiers from the military junta, the police, and the district Administration are collaborating to intensify guest list checks.

This follows a recent exchange of gunfire between the military junta and members of Ye Blue in front of Min Zin Pyae bakery in the Yan Myo Aung neighborhood.

Beginning on November 23rd around 12:00 noon, stringent guest list checks were conducted.

“A junta sergeant was wounded when the Ye Blue group fired a 40mm caliber weapon They exchanged gunfire. The Ye Blue group also had casualties. The junta investigated the incident, which involved strict guest list checks being enforced in the neighborhood,” said a resident.

A sergeant from the junta stationed in Ye Township and a member of the Ye Blue group were injured in the exchange of gunfire.

“The junta soldiers entered homes and conducted checks. Some people ran away and went to other villages. There are guests in our neighborhood who used to live on the farm, but are now returning to the township, so they are facing an investigation,” said a resident of Yan Myo Aung neighborhood.

Security at the entrance and exit of Ye Township, and other locations has increased since the shooting. Community members fear the potential for unjust arrests.
