Psychedelic pills seized during a patrol in Wei Thun Chaung Village, Thanbyuzayat Township

During a standard police patrol in Thanbyuzayat two men riding a bike were stopped and arrested for possession of WY psychedelic pills. The incident took place in Wei Thun Chaung Village, at Thanbyuzayat Township on December 8, 2020.

On the village road, in front of a tomb, a man, named Myint Thein, was spotted driving a Honda Wave 100 gray motorcycle. Police stopped and searched the driver. They found him to be in possession of a green plastic container with the brand WY stamped on it (a known brand of illegal drugs).  The individual had 17 pink coloured psychedelic pills on him along with 85,000 kyat.

Ranger Leader Deputy Chief of Police, U Kyaw Naing, with the  Thanbyuzayat Police Station explained why they stopped and searched the individual.  “We received information and checked it. Then I found the drugs. This guy is a drug trafficker and I got 17 pills now, so this case is being prosecuted according to the law.”

Myint Thein (aka) R Kyi, is thought to be 43 years old and is a recent drug trafficker.  He has been charged under section 16(g)/ 20 (k) of the Prevention of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substance Act, according to Thanbyuzayat Police Station.

U Thein, Chair of Kyet Khin Ye Ward approved of the arrest.  We have to cooperate to clear [away] drugs [from the] community. There [have been] three cases [of drug arrests] in my community that I can remember. I suggest that young people get away from the drugs…. do not use drugs… or you can go to jail” he said.

In 2020, there have been 66 drug cases made by the  Thanbyuzayat Town Police Station, 14 cases made by the Kyaikkhami Police Station,  for a total of 80 cases in the township.
