The police in Mudon Town have seized a garden of kratom plants which when harvested and processed produce an illicit drug. The seizure took place in the evening of December 8, in Thayar Gone village which is part of the Tapa-thum village tract in Mudon Township.
The Mudon Township Police raided Saw Nyi Nyi Tun (aka) Nyi Nyi’s house and searched his garden. Witnesses noted the search resulted in a seizure of 12 seedlings and about 70 plants of various sizes, some had 14-inch diameter trunks.
“I arrested him with the information provided from people, and found 70 kratom plants with 12 seedlings. Let’s work together to eradicate drugs. Give us information, and we will [ensure] informers are [kept safe]. I have a State duty to deal with these drugs. We have also seized a large amount of kratom leaves in Abic Village,” said Aung Myoe Tun, Deputy the Chief of Police in Mudon Town.
Saw Nyi Nyi Tun and two other persons were arrested by the Mudon Township Police Station under Section 19 (K) / 16 (K) / 21 of the Criminal Procedure Code MY(P) 88/2020.
“I am glad to see such an arrest and I thank the police. I want them to arrest the main drug traffickers, and we need to make sure that young people do not fall into these drug traps. We will discuss this big issue when we get into the parliament,” said Nai San Thin, the parliamentary representative for Mudon Township.
