The Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC) in Myanmar announced the seizure of a large supply of methamphetamines.
On August 4, a woman drove a vehicle through the Panga checkpoint in Thanphyuzayat Township, Mon State. The driver was followed after the checkpoint by the authorities. Daw Nya and Daw Ma Sein were both in a Honda Fit vehicle. Their vehicle was then soon stopped and searched at around 8pm.
5,200 Ecstasy pills (estimated to be worth 104,000 kyats) were found inside the vehicle and confiscated.
Ecstasy is a drug that affects the brain’s chemistry by releasing a high level of serotonin, which plays a role in regulating mood, energy level and appetite. The scientific name for Ecstasy is 3,4-methylenedioxy-methamphetamine or MDMA. It is a synthetic drug that alters mood and perception (awareness of surrounding objects and conditions). It is chemically similar to both stimulants and hallucinogens, producing feelings of increased energy, pleasure, emotional warmth, and distorts sensory and time perception. MDMA was initially popular in the nightclub scene and at all-night dance parties (“raves”), but the drug now affects a broader range of people who more commonly call the drug Ecstasy or Molly.
Following the search and seizure of these pills, the authorities then went to the home of Daw Nya in Ah Nin Village, Thanphyuzayat Township. They conducted a search beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Here the authorities found Kratom leaves weighing 20.4125 kilos (with a local market value of more than 4 lakh Kyats). The search of the house and property also revealed 3 kilos of ICE- or methamphetamines. These drugs were also confiscated, along with two vehicles.
According to CCDAC Myanmar, a legal case has been opened against Daw Nya (47) and Daw Ma Sein (56). Both are being charged under the law for possession of narcotics and psychoactive drugs and are being held at Thanphyuzayat police station.
