On February 20, three elderly patients died from the Covid virus at the Mawlamyine Hospital in Mon State.
According to a relief worker familiar with the patients, all three individuals had underlying medical conditions prior to contracting the virus.
“One individual was from Hpa-an, another was from southern Mawlamyine. He died from covid while receiving treatment. He had a bad lung. He had been receiving oxygen and his breathing was laboured. A man from southern Mawlamyine had only been hospitalized for a few days,” he said.
The number of Covid cases in Mon State has been increasing on a daily basis. On February 20, there were 119 confirmed cases of Covid, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health and Sports.
In Mon State, at least four people succumbed to the virus in February.
According to a February 21 statement issued by the State Administrative Council’s Ministry of Health , 2,897 new cases were confirmed with laboratory test results, with an infection rate of 10.17%.
