BNI engages in Global Peace Media Network

In the final day of 2018 World Peace Soeul, the network of ethnic media group from Burma/Myanmar, Burma News International (BNI) signed the Memorandum of Underto participate in Global Peace Media Network along with media organizations from 13 countries, to actively participate peace reporting.

There are about 49 journalists from 23 countries attended the 2014 Peace World Summit, organized by a Karea NGO, Heavenly Culture, World Peace and Restoration of Light (HWPL).  The journalists not only intending to report from the world peace summit, but they also involved in 2nd Conference of Global Peace Media Network, and discussed how the journalists can effectively involve in promoting the peace around the world and avoid media irresponsible actions in conflict situation.

HWPL Chairman, Mr. Man Hee Lee, gave a speech to journalists in the Conference, and he said “the journalists are the messengers for peace, and your writing and reporting around the world can report the truth and you can find the way how to promote peace.  This is very important and we want a ‘world without war’”.

Former President of Tunesia, Dr. Moncef Marzouki, reminded the bad media or mis-use of the media  could create conflicts based on the genocidal case in Rawanda. He stressed that ‘approximately 51,000 deaths were caused by the radio station’s broadcasts, which are widely listened to by the general population’.  He also urged to the media to change itself to be professional media and promoting peace, and respect the difference and non-discrimination.

A religious leader Bishop Thomas Dabre from India appreciated the goodness of the media helping the people and saving the life of the people around the world, “In truth, the media are blessing.  In times of calamities the media separate the news all over the world.  As a result, people are helped in famines, floods, earthquakes, storms, wild fires, bridge collapses, accidents, plane crashes, etc., immediate aid and relief offered to victims.  Thus it has much goodness and compassion is promoted by the media among the peoples of all religious,, cultures, nationalities, races and ideologies, without discrimination”.

There have been much encouragement by the global leaders, in promoting the media to work for peace.  After about 7 speakers raised the importance of media in peace-building and has responsibilities to provide peace education through their media channels, 13 media groups from 13 countries have singed the MOU with HWPL, the organizer of World Peace Summit.

Some many media agencies already involved in the 1st Conference of Global Media Network last year, held in Seoul along with World Peace Summit.

The slogan of the Summit is “We Are One”, and all participants shout We Are One, in every sessions of workshop, meeting, and conference to build the solidarity to build global peace.  HWPL has tried to organize women, youths, religious leaders, lawyers, former heads of States, and all walks of CSOs, to support its Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW), which is under plan to propose to UN.

During the Summit, 49 journalists are reporting all kinds of peace activities conducted by HWPL, its women branch of International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG), and its youth branch, International Peace Youth Group (IPYG) during the entire conference.

There are the representatives from Burma/Myanmar to the Summit are: Burma News International as media, youth groups, women groups, Buddhist monks and Christian religious leaders joined 5 days long events.

International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) also extended the activities around the world in building peace network among women and participate in campaign against war.  It has about 3.7 million members around the world.  Similarly International Peace Youth Group also extended its activities on the Peace Letter to the South Korea President for Korean unification and world peace.
