Mon State Hluttaw 3rd Regular Session to begin on Oct. 13

-

The 3rd Regular Session of the Mon State Hluttaw [Parliament] will begin on October 3 at Hluttaw Hall in Mon State’s capital Mawlamyine, formerly known as Moulmein, according to Mon State Hluttaw Speaker Daw Tin Ei.

“We plan to have 4 days for this year’s regular conference. But if 4 days is not enough, we will have [it] for 5 days,” said Speaker Daw Tin Ei.

In total, about 8-9 issues will be presented by Hluttaw representatives and 30 questions will be asked at this upcoming 3rd Regular Session of Hluttaw conference, according to the State Hluttaw Office.

Topics to be discussed at the 3rd regular session of Hluttaw conference include fixing and adjusting the Mon State Government’s account of allocated budget and expense, as well as drafted electric law, according to Mon State Hluttaw Office.

“If it does not work out, we will have [the public] at Hluttaw to ask questions. What [Hluttaw] representatives should know is the representatives themselves can help work for the public instead of having them meet at Hluttaw,” said Daw Tin Ei.

Respective Hluttaw committees have meetings to discuss matters reported to them by the public, and then the committees meet with the government. At the same time, Hluttaw representatives also travel to respective townships and meet with the locals.

Hluttaw representatives have two meetings per month wherein they discuss and negotiate for projects, while they also have affairs committee meetings.

The first regular session was held on February 8, one special conference was also held on June 2, while the second regular session took place on June 27.

Mon State Hluttaw is comprised of 31 representatives, including 19 from National League for Democracy, 2 from Mon National Party, 1 from All Mon Regions Democracy Party, 1 from Union Solidarity and Development Party, and 8 from the Tatmadaw [army]. In addition, the state government has 7 members, including the chief minister.
