NBF Party’s 23rd conference held in Mon State’s capital

-

The Nationalities Brotherhood Federation (NBF) Party held its regular 23rd conference in Moulmein, the capital of Mon State, last Monday (on May 25).

“For the first point, we discussed domestic peace as the main topic. Second point comes with a discussion of how the NBF goes ahead with its strategy as the 2015 election draws close. Now, there aren’t lots of people and organisations that want to cause dissension among NBF members. But joining with the NBF, the member parties based in respective states mainly discuss how the NBF will be able to form a government in their own respective states,” said Daw Chin Chin, Director of NBF.

At the [23rd] conference, topics on the current situation of politics, equality rights for ethnic groups, to get complete rights, to share natural resources, and the circumstances of the 2015 election were discussed.

During the conference, NBF released a statement, urging to immediately draw a framework of political talks after signing a nationwide ceasefire accord (NCA), and to hold a political conference before the 2015 general elections.

The statement also urged to amend Article 261 before the 2015 election, to be able to compete in elections at least in 161 townships across the country and [to compete] for [seats of] ethnic affair minister and to be able to be appointed, at the respective Hluttaw, as division and state ministers.

“In Mon State, there are thirty-one Hluttaw representatives. Of thirty-one, twenty-three representatives were elected representatives, while eight representatives were not elected rather were directly from the army. So, in order to have all thirty-one representatives elected by their respective areas, the article 261 must be fixed and then it will become a genuine federal union,” said Nai Kon Chan, central committee member of All Mon Regions Democracy Party (AMDP).

NBF Party is a joint party of twenty-one ethnic political parties, and as a rotation; it holds its conferences in each respective ethnic area.

The 23rd conference, took place at the Rehmonnya Hotel, in Moulmein Capital, attracting about fifty representatives of NBF’s member parties from respective states, while members of the AMDP, were also in attendance.
