-

Residents of Tadaru village of Thaton Township, Mon State, reported a train was attacked on the morning of April 10th. The attack took place along the Mawlamyine-Yangon railway section between Theinzeik station and Donwun station.

At approximately 7:00 a.m. on April 10, a train carrying stone, en route from Thaton to Bilin was hit by an explosion. The detonation resulted in injuries to the locomotive driver and derailed four cars.

According to Mawlamyine Station, the Mawlamyine-Yangon train service was temporarily suspended due to the attack and the resulting damage to the railway track.

This incident mirrors a similar attack on March 18th, when a train traveling was also targeted, resulting in the derailment of seven cars and damage to approximately 20 feet of rail.

As a result of these attacks, both the Yangon-Mawlamyine and Mawlamyine-Yangon train services were suspended for about a week.

Local residents report frequent incidents of cargo trains being targeted by mines along this stretch of track. Efforts to locate and de-mine the track are on-going.
