Mon State high school matriculation pass rates still the highest in Burma

Min Thu Ta – Although Mon State holds the highest matriculation exam pass rates in Burma, Grade 10 students’ marks have sunk a little lower than previous years. Mon students scored a state average of 47.38-percent, down 4.82-percent from the last school year.

During 2011-12 high school matriculation exam, 13,796 students took the exam and 7,202 passed; a 52.2-percent matriculation pass rate and highest in the country. Thirteen-students received six subject distinctions, or 75-percent, or higher, on six subjects.

“The number of students that passed with 6 subject distinctions this year is 12. Five students are from No. 9 B.E.H.S (Basic Education High School) , two students from No. 6 BEHS, and one student from No.8 BEHS in Moulmein. Also, 2 students are from Mudon Township and the other 2 students are from Thaton Township. At the state level, No. 8 BEHS took first place, and if we look at the township level, as usual Mudon Township has the highest rate, ” said a Mon State’s Education Ministry staff.

Mon State has maintained the highest matriculation pass rates since 2007. Last year, 13,707 students took the exam, out of this 6,494 students passed. Twelve students passed with six subject distinctions, followed by thirty-one students with five subject distinctions.

According to the Mandalay Division’s Ministry of Education (MOE), 29,715 students passed out of 75,282 students that sat for the exam, giving them a 39.47-percentage matriculation pass rate. Out of this, 156 students received 6 subject distinctions, followed by 392 students with 5 subject distinctions; 613 students with 4 subject distinctions; 734 students with 3 distinctions, 979 students with 2 distinctions, and 2,206 students with one distinction. Overall, 5,080 students received distinction on their subject grades.

In Rangoon Division students scored a 33.39-percentage matriculation pass rate.

In Kachin State, only 1232 students passed out of 7459 students that took the exam. The state scored a 16.52-percentage passing rate, the lowest in the country.

This year’s matriculation exam that started on March 13 took place at 1,296 places both in, and out of country. Students living abroad can opt to complete examinations at a Myanmar [Burmese] embassy. A total of 487,410 students took the exams. The results were announced by the Myanmar [Burma] Department of Board of Examination on June 8.
