Jaloon Htaw : The All Mon Regions Democracy Party (AMDP) in Mon state is receiving many votes from the Mon population.

According to a Mon woman from Yan-Kyi-Aung quarter in Ye Town, she had vote for the AMDP because she wants the Mon to win the election. “I voted for Nai Bayan Aung Moe, National Parliamentary constituency No. 7. I am Mon, so I voted for a Mon candidate” she explained.

Many Mon people in the townships of Moulmein, Mudon , Thanphyuzayart, Ye, and Chaungzone have voted for the AMDP.

“The AMDP will win I think, because most people don’t want to vote for the United Solidarity and Development Party (USDP, which is government-backed) or the National Unity Party. This is why they [Mon people] vote for the AMDP,” said one woman from Say-Kyo quarter, Moulmine Town.
One woman from Town-Sunn village, Chaungzone Township, reaffirmed, “we are Mon so we vote for the Mon.”

Another villager from Bo-Taza quarter polling-station in Mudon Town, expressed a worry, “I voted for AMDP. I just worry that this evening all the votes will be changed to the other party.”

One Mon villager form Three Pagoda Pass (TPP) at the Thai-Burma border explained, “I didn’t let anyone know who I voted for [AMDP]. I am from TPP, with many government officials around and other ethnic minorities. I just kept quiet and let no one know about my vote.”

editor’s note: Before the AMDP officially released its English name, the name was translated and abbreviated AMRDP. Now that the party has officially released its name, the abbreviation is AMDP.
