More than 5,000 students will take part in the 27th Summer Mon Literature Examination to be held across the Mon region, according to officials from the Mon Literature and Culture Association.

The examination will be held on May 21 at Sasana 2500 Monastery in Mawlamyine and organized by the Mon Literature and Culture Association.

Students from 17 townships in Myanmar, as well as Mon communities in Thailand and Malaysia, will participate in this year’s examination.

“Students from 17 townships in Myanmar, as well as from Thailand and Malaysia, will take part this year, with the number increasing to 5,434 from more than 4,000 last year,” a Sayadaw from the Mon Literature and Culture Association said.

According to records from the Mon Region Mon Literature and Culture Association, 2,618 students will sit for the Abhidhamma class examination, 1,190 for the Hanthawaddy History class, 687 for the Moketama History class, 377 for the Suvannabhumi History class, 304 for the Mon Literature History class, 140 for the Mon Culture class, and 118 for the Mon Inscription class.

Association officials also said that 138 students who completed all six history courses will receive special awards.

“This year, a total of 138 students who completed all six history classes will receive special awards. It will be similar to awarding a degree certificate. The awards will be presented during the graduation ceremony,” the Sayadaw said.

Awards for students who completed the Mon history courses and those who passed the examinations will be presented during a ceremony scheduled for May 31 at Sasana 2500 Monastery in Mawlamyine.

Although the Summer Mon Literature training program is a short-term course, officials from the Mon Region Mon Literature and Culture Association said it remains one of the strongest literary and cultural education programs among Mon communities and encouraged continued public support.
