On April 4rth, near Shwe Yaung Pya village in Bilin township, Mon state, a passenger bus ran over a landmine and was fired upon with small arms, resulting in the death of one man and injuries to two men and one woman.
According to local residents, a Aung Kyaw Moe bus detonated a landmine that was planted on the road, and then was shot at around 9:00 p.m. on the Yangon-Mawlamyine highway between mileposts (131/1) and (131/2).
Ko Zin Latt, who was following the bus, was killed when Aung Kyaw Moe’s passenger bus hit a landmine.
“The person following the vehicle died after being hit by a bullet in the neck,” said a resident.
50-year-old, U Tun Tun from Ayeyarwady, 17-year-old Ma Hnin Wai Zin, and another passenger, 27-year-old Zaya Tun, sustained bullet injuries.
The individuals who were struck by bullets were transported to Theinzeik district hospital in Thaton township, Thuwanawaddy town, by a social assistance and rescue team.
There were a total of 45 passengers on the bus, plus the driver.
On the night of March 27th, an ambulance detonated a landmine on the Yangon-Mawlamyine highway near Kamarsaing village, Donwun village, Thaton township, resulting in injuries to the driver and patient.
