Woman Arrested for Unauthorized Petrol Storage in Mawlamyine

-

On December 10th, authorities arrested and charged a woman in Mawlamyine Township, Mon State, for selling and storing petrol illegally.

Ma Aye Dar Hlaing, a 38-year-old woman from Siskekhome Ward was allegedly selling petrol near the Lamutan Market in Shwe Myine Thiri Ward.

According to a source close to the security forces, “Ma Aye Dar Hlaing posted on Facebook, her phone number inviting those interested in buying petrol to call her. It was discovered that she was storing petrol without official permission and selling it at a price higher than the market rate.”

According to Mawlamyine residents, individuals are selling illegal fuel outside of patrol stations, due to shortages.

Gasoline is being sold at prices ranging from 4,000 kyats to 7,000 kyats per liter.

“I observed fuel being sold in the evening on the Lamutan side. Small shops emerged in the evening. It seems like they are conducting business,” mentioned a resident.

Currently, Ma Aye Dar Hlaing, is under prosecution with charges filed under (Pa) 104/2023, Section 37 of the Petroleum and Petroleum Products Act. She is being held at the Siskekhome Police Station

Due to the petrol shortages, some shops have closed and some sellers are restricting availability, causing an increase in petrol prices. It is common now to endure long line ups to obtain petrol.
