Monk Dies after Military Junta Bombs Kyaikmarraw Township

According to local residents, a monk was killed in an airstrike launched by the military junta that targeted Mikatik village, Kyaikmarraw township, Mon State on the afternoon of December 1st.

Despite the absence of fighting around the village, the military junta dropped two 500-pound bombs into Mukatik village on December 1 at 2:00 p.m., resulting in an explosion in the Bunnadana Tawya monastery compound.

Mukatik village is situated on the border between Kyaikmarraw and Kyain-seikgyi townships.

According to local residents, a 42-year-old monk named U Tawma, was struck by the bomb and died at the scene.

A resident described, “The bomb’s impact was powerful; the ground shook, and the monastery suffered severe damage.”

Almost all residents of the village have fled, due to the air strikes. 

On November 30th, the military junta launched mortar shells, which landed in Kaw Dun, Kaw Panaw villages near Sa Bal Cave bridge in Kyaikmarraw township, causing extensive damage to numerous houses.

Since November 10,  Kyaikmarraw township, residents reported a daily barrage of mortar shells from the military junta following the battle in Chaunghnitkhwa village.

The conflict persists with aid workers noting that displaced individuals urgently require food, drinking water, and essential medicine.
