According to local residents, one civilian was killed and at least 10 were injured in fighting that took place in Kyainseikgyi, Karen State.
The Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) joint forces attacked a military junta camp based in Kyainseikgyi township on the morning of November 2, leading to fierce fighting between the two sides.
The military junta fired mortar shells and launched airstrikes.
According to one resident, a mortar shell hit a house and civilians were injured and killed.
“We don’t know exactly how many people were hit or how many houses were damaged, but we saw houses hit by mortar shells. I also saw a civilian killed by a bullet right in front of my eyes. We are hiding now, — we don’t know for sure how bad it is,” said the resident.
Due to the fighting, the Three Pagoda pass – Kyainseikgyi – Chaunghnitkhwa highway is closed to traffic.
The loss of life includes members of the military junta, the Karen joint forces and civilians. The exact number of fatalities and injuries has not yet been confirmed.
Residents of Kyainseikgyi were forced to flee for their safety amidst the fighting.
