At around 9:30 pm on November 1st,  the ‘Aung Kyaw Moe’ passenger vehicle stopped near the PT Power gas station along the Yangon-Mawlamyine highway, en route from Yangon to Mawlamyine.

About 40 passengers were on board the “Aung Kyaw Moe” vehicle when it hit the mine.

Those injured included U Win Kyine (45), Ohn Than (38), Ko San Min (23) and his 18-year-old brother Ko Aung San Min, Daw Khaing War War Win (22), Daw Win Hla 60), 25-year-old Daw Nay Che Theit, and 22-year-old Daw Than Than Yi.

“All those injured have been transported to the hospital by social rescue vehicles,” said a resident.

The social assistance and rescue team transported the injured passengers to Thaton District Public Hospital. Following necessary medical treatment, they were discharged to their homes.

On the morning of October 23, near Kamarsai Village in the Donwun Village tract in Thaton Township, another landmine explosion left one man and a woman injured.

Along the Yangon-Mawlamyine road in Mon State’s Kyaikto, Bilin, and Thaton townships, vehicles carrying tourists and pilgrims, as well as social rescue vehicles, frequently come under gunfire and hit land mines.

Locals urge travelers to exercise increased caution on this roadway.
