Some Political Parties not yet invited to attend the NCA 8th Anniversary Celebration

Some political parties have not been invited to attend the 8th anniversary of the National Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) to be held on October 15.

Nai Than Shwe, a spokesperson for the Mon Unity Party (MUP) said, “There has been no official invitation yet. However, I have heard that some party CECs have received personal invitations. As for the party, there is no formal invitation. At the moment, there are only personal invitations.”

He added that the party may not have been invited because it is not registered, but if invited, they will attend.

U Thar Tun Hla, the Chair of the Arakan National Party (ANP) has also not received an invitation. ANP is also not registered. 

“Currently, we don’t have an invitation. We haven’t been invited or received any notifications at the moment,” he said.

“The party stated that prominent ethnic parties like the Mon Unity Party (MUP) and the Rakhine National Party (ANP) have applied for permission to establish and register as political parties, but their request has not yet been successful.

The military junta’s Chair announced that both NCA-signatory ethnic armed organizations and those that have not signed, along with foreign countries, have been invited to the 8th NCA anniversary event.
