Two Civilians Killed and Two Injured in Hnitkayin Battle

On June 25th, around 11:30 pm, two civilians were killed and two were injured in an armed battle taking place in Hnitkayin Village, Ye Township, Mon State.

According to local residents, at around 11:30 pm. the Hnitkayin village police station was attacked by the local People’s Defense Forces, and in response, the military junta retaliated using land based artillery and air strikes.

“Two people died and two were injured due to mortar shells. They are all family members, and their house was also damaged. The military junta launched an attack using two planes. The fighting ceased shortly after 3:00 p.m. on June 25,” said a resident of Hnitkayin village.

According to locals, four people from Hnitkayin village were injured when they were hit by artillery shells fired by the 317th artillery unit based in Weahpei village.

The Independent Mon News Agency has not been able to verify details about the total number of deaths and injuries of affected villagers.

On June 24 at around 11:00 p.m., a 60-year-old woman was killed when the military junta fired mortar shells at the Tatkaw-Three Pagoda Pass junction, alleging the presence of KNU forces in Sakhangyi village, Thanphyuzayat Township.
