4 suspected military junta soldiers arrested by KNLA/PDF forces on Ye-Thanphyuzayat Highway

-

Military Region No. 3 announced that four suspected military junta soldiers were arrested during a KNLA/PDF inspection on the Mawlamyine-To-Dawei road between Ye Township and Thanphyuzayat Township in Mon State.

The Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and People’s Defense Forces (PDF) joint forces conducted inspections at three locations along the road between Ye and Thanphyuzayat from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. on June 18th.

During the inspection, 4 individuals disguised as passengers were arrested, according to a  statement released by 3rd Military region. Further details are expected.

On June 10, the 6th Brigade of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) issued a 4-point statement, which included a warning that military junta personnel, and their belongings should not be transported along the Mawlamyine-Dawei-Myeik No. 8 road.

The statement made clear that effective June 15th, passengers and vehicles traveling along Highway No. 8 must halt and undergo inspection when stopped by the KNLA. They are strictly prohibited from transporting individuals or materials affiliated with the military junta. Additionally, vehicles associated with ethnic armed organizations are also subject to voluntary stops and inspections.

A person driving the Mawlamyine-Ye route said, “Interrogate suspicious people? Strange things? Well, in that case, they would conduct checks. If it’s the people from your village, they usually don’t cause any trouble. But if unfamiliar individuals come, they ask, “Where did you come from?”

The KNLA is aware the junta are kidnapping and forcing civilians to bolster their forces, which is why they issued the statement and have begun to check vehicles and passengers traveling in areas under their control.

The highway between Ye Township and Thanphyuzayat, is an area subject to frequent shootings.

According to local residents, there have been numerous injuries and deaths as a result of armed clashes between the junta and resistance forces taking place along the highway.
