A man was killed by an unknown shooter in the morning of March 28th and at least one other individual was injured.

The victims, believed to be relatives, were travelling back to Mawlamyine from Myawaddy in a Probox private transport vehicle.  None of the travellers have been identified yet.

The shooting took place near the temporary Bailey Bridge on the Myawaddy-Kawkareik Asia Road.

According to an official from the group called Pearl White Social Relief, the vehicle was struck by gunfire, killing one and injuring another. The official said “they were relatives, and the injured passenger was taken to Cox’s Kawkareik Hospital, the other passenger died on the spot. His body was taken to Mawlamyine”.

A day before the shooting took place, the Karen National Union (KNU) Brigade 6, Dooplaya District, issued a letter warning people not to travel in the area of  the Kawkareik-Myawaddy and Myawaddy-Wallay intersection.
