Man Killed by Military Junta Artillery Fire in Kyaikto

The Karen National Union (KNU) reported that a man was struck by a mortar shell fired by the 310th Battalion of the Military Junta Artillery, who are stationed in Theinzayat, Kyaikto Township, Mon State.

Between 4 and 5 am on May 6th , the military junta artillery battalion fired four 122 mm howitzers, with one shell exploding at a rubber farm located at the top of Zee Pyaung (1) village.

U Than Aung, a 45-year-old resident of Zee Pyaung (1) village, was hit by the blast from the mortar shell.  

Suffering severe injuries to his arms, abdomen, and legs, U Than Aung succumbed to his wounds on the morning of May 7th while undergoing medical treatment.

The military junta camp stationed in Thaton District has regularly launched mortar shells into the KNU-administered area, leading to a continuous stream of casualties.

The mortar shelling has  damaged residential houses and vegetable farms, forcing tens of thousands of local residents to seek refuge.
