More than a thousand tourists/day visit Kyaik Htee Yoe Pagoda

-

More than a thousand domestic tourists are visiting  the Kyaik Htee Yoe Pagoda in Kyaikto Township, in Mon State every day.

According to U Soe Hla, Head of the Kyaik Htee Yoe Board of Trustees, as many as  1,500 domestic tourists visit the country on weekends and government holidays.

“Normally, we get about a thousand tourists every day. On Saturdays and Sundays, about 40 or 50 buses come. On holidays, about 1,500 tourists come,” said Soe Hla.

Stay at home orders in townships have been canceled due to declining case numbers of covid infections, and more tourists are expected to visit the region.

Another Board of Trustee official commented, ” due to a shortage of tourists, little money has been collected.  Once the Stay-at-Home order is cancelled, visitors will donate more money.”

The Ministry of Health cancelled Stay-At-Home orders on November 11th for Mawlamyine and Thanbyuzayat townships, and the cancellation also applies to townships where the population has fewer than 5% of Covid-19 cases.

“Sales have not been very high. Not all of the shops have reopened. Most of them have reopened as restaurants and gift shops,” said the souvenir shop.

In the previous fiscal year , Kyaik Htee Yoe Pagoda received over nine billion kyat in annual revenue, including shop revenues.
