The event will be held virtually on the Mon Youth Forum (MYF)  Facebook page on December 28, due to Covid-19. The event will be live streamed from Ye Township, reported Min Mon Htaw, a spokesperson for the event.

Last year’s forum also had a political  theme.  Tititled,  “Mon youth should support the Mon political party”

“There will be contests featuring short stories and poems, and it will be [somewhat] different from last year’s event. On December 27th, there will be a welcoming event, a speech contest and an awards session for a literature contest. In the morning of December 28, at 9 AM, the agenda will be similar to previous years,” said Min Mon Htaw.

In addition, statements from the Chairs and Committee members as well as letters from political parties will be read at the event.

“Mon youth are encouraged to take part and become involved in national history with their skills.   It is also the responsibility of the young people to get rid of [illegal] drugs, which is damaging the future of youth,” said Min Zarni Oo, Secretary of MYF.

Previous Mon Youth Days have rotated in different townships, by paying respect to late Mon leaders, who gave their lives for Mon history.  Recognizing past leadership  provides today’s youth with the opportunity to develop their leadership capacities and helps young people to network.

The first Mon Youth Seminar was held in Mawlamyine in 1946, during the early days of Burma’s/Myanmar’s independence.  It has since been renamed Mon Youth Day.
