A total of 13 students from Mon National high schools under the Mon National Education Committee (MNEC) of the New Mon State Party (NMSP) passed the 2026 matriculation examination, according to information obtained by IMNA from school officials.
This year, 76 students sat for the matriculation examination, including 18 from Nyi Sar High School, 36 from Weng Ka Par High School, 20 from Andin High School, and two from Panga Mon National Branch High School.
A teacher from a Mon National school said both the number of Grade 12 students taking the examination and the pass rate were low this year.

“At Weng Ka Par School, 36 students took the exam and five passed. One student received a distinction in Economics. At Nyi Sar School, five of the 18 students passed. At Andin School, two of the 20 students passed. At Panga School, one of the two students passed,” the teacher said.
Of the 76 students who sat for the examination, 13 passed, giving the schools an overall pass rate of 17.11%.
In the 2025 matriculation examination, only six of the 127 students from Mon National schools passed, marking the lowest pass rate in the history of the schools.
School officials said students who do not pass the matriculation examination can still enroll at Mon National College after completing a one-year pre-college programme.
During the 2025–2026 academic year, the Mon National Education Committee allowed Grade 12 students to choose at the beginning of the school year whether to sit for the government-administered matriculation examination or the Grade 12 examination administered by the MNEC Examination Board in order to continue their higher education.
School officials said this option resulted in fewer students choosing to take the 2026 government matriculation examination.
According to the military junta’s Ministry of Education, 5,924 students in Mon State passed the 2026 matriculation examination, with an overall pass rate of 56.19%.
