A man from Chaukmaing village in Tanintharyi Township lost his leg after stepping on a landmine, according to local news sources.
The incident happened at around 2 p.m. on May 12, when 32-year-old U Myo Win from Chaukmaing village stepped on a landmine while picking mangoes in his plantation, a local resident said.
“He was injured in Chaukmaing village. He stepped on the mine while picking mangoes in his plantation. The explosion happened near a mango tree. His leg was badly injured, and it may have been amputated,” a local man said.
Local residents said U Myo Win, who lost his leg in the blast, is currently receiving medical treatment at Tanintharyi Township Public Hospital.
Ground-level sources said military junta troops frequently move in and out of Chaukmaing village.
At present, clashes between military junta columns and revolutionary forces are occurring almost daily in and around Ngarmaing and Chaukmaing villages.
In April, revolutionary joint forces warned residents from villages along the BawdiKan–Nyaungpinkwin road not to remain in their villages and to move to safer areas.
However, only some villagers fled, while many residents reportedly continue living in their villages.
“The military junta troops regularly enter and leave Chaukmaing village, and many landmines have been planted there. There is almost nowhere safe to walk. Fighting happens nearly every day both inside and around the village. That is why residents were warned not to stay there. Only a small number of people relocated, while most are still living in the village,” a revolutionary force member said.
On April 30, clashes also broke out in Chaukmaing village between military junta troops and revolutionary forces, during which a woman was shot dead.
