School Buildings Damaged by Military Airstrike in Taku Village

-

Two high school buildings were damaged after the military junta carried out an airstrike on Taku village in Tanintharyi Township, Tanintharyi Region, on the morning of May 13, according to the Karen National Union (KNU) Myeik-Dawei District.

The military junta reportedly carried out the bombing attack using a jet fighter at around 9:50 a.m. on May 13.

A bomb dropped by the military exploded inside the compound of the Taku village high school, damaging two school buildings.

According to local sources, the military has frequently launched airstrikes on Taku village despite there being no active fighting in the area.

In March, the military junta also carried out an airstrike on Taku village, killing three local residents, injuring three others, and damaging several homes.

The KNU stated that the military continues to deliberately target civilian areas, including schools and religious buildings, through repeated airstrikes and mortar shell attacks, openly committing violations that amount to war crimes.
