Two civilians were injured and a house was destroyed by fire after the military junta launched a mortar attack on Kaleinpadaw village in Thanbyuzayat Township, Mon State, despite a declared temporary ceasefire, according to local sources.
The incident occurred around 6 p.m. on April 5, when junta forces stationed in Yetagon village fired 120mm mortars. One of the shells landed in Kaleinpadaw, setting a home ablaze and injuring a man and a woman.

“A mortar shell hit Kaleinpadaw yesterday evening. One house burned down completely, and a man and a woman were injured,” a local source told the Independent Mon News Agency.
The man reportedly suffered injuries to his right hand and abdomen, while the woman was wounded in her left arm and right leg.
The attack took place just days after junta leader Min Aung Hlaing announced a temporary ceasefire from April 2 to April 22, citing the need to ensure stability and facilitate post-earthquake rescue and recovery efforts. However, members of the resistance operating in Kawkareik expressed skepticism about the junta’s intentions.
“They’ve announced a ceasefire on paper, but in reality, they continue operating as usual. We’ve seen drones flying and dropping explosives in our areas, it’s far from peaceful,” said a resistance fighter in Kawkareik.
While resistance forces have paused their operations in light of the recent natural disaster, they accuse the junta of ignoring its own ceasefire declaration and continuing military actions. Resistance groups have urged civilians to remain alert and cautious in light of ongoing attacks.
