In Kyaikto township, Mon State, a monk has been arrested and charged with allegedly supporting the People’s Defense Forces (PDF).
Monk U Oaktama, who resides in a monastery in Kyaikto township, was arrested by the military junta on December 5 and charged under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
“A campaign conducted by the National Unity Government (NUG) and PDF groups, was investigated by the officials and U Oaktama was allegedly found to have invested money in the campaign via Kpay,” said a source close to the security forces.
U Oaktama is being held at the Kyaikto City Police Station and is being charged under Article 50 (j) of the Anti-Terrorism Act (Pa) 106/2023, (2014).
Similarly, on December 5th, Ma Thuzar Win (Aka) Chana from Hpedo village, Mudon township, was arrested and detained for allegedly supporting the NUG and PDF through Wave Money.
Also on December 5th, a 46-year-old, U Zwe Rkar (aka) Thar Cho from Mawlamyine township, Siskekhome ward, was arrested by the military junta for posting a letter criticizing the military junta on a social networking site. A case was opened under Section 505 (a).
On December 8th, a man from Mawlamyine was arrested and a case was opened under Section 505 (a) alleging he had spread false news on social media.
