KNU Urges Military and Civilian Employees in Thaton District to Cooperate with the People

-

On December 10th, the Karen National Union (KNU) Center urged military and civilian employees working in the Thaton District, Mon State, to cease their collaboration with the military junta and align with the people.

Thaton District is within the jurisdiction of the 1st Brigade of the Karen National Union.

The KNU urges civilian employees of the military junta to stop their administrative activities and collaborate with the people in public service activities. Military personnel are being urged to disregard orders from the military junta and to prioritize the protection of public security.

The KNU also urged soldiers to refuse orders that target or harm the public, and to engage in counter-revolutionary activities to overthrow the military dictatorship.  The KNU argues that because the military serves the interests of top generals, it is calling on soldiers to leave the military and take refuge with the people.

KNU will assume full responsibility and administration for the safety and social services of the people in their area. Any other organization wishing to provide social security and public services must coordinate with KNU.

In light of the military junta’s targeting the public as if they were enemies, people in the region are experiencing a severe lack of security, leading to substantial harm to lives and property.

KNU also calls upon officers, sergeants, conscripts, and soldiers in the military junta’s battalions and camps within the area controlled by Brigade (1) to align with KNU’s political stance.
