In Thanpyuzayat township, Mon State, the military junta continues to arrest residents related to the owner of the ‘Haymawon’ construction materials store.
A source close to the military junta reports that U Ta Yout, the owner, is being investigated because records on his mobile phone indicate fundraising activities in support of the People’s Defense Forces (PDF).
“When the military junta arrested him and checked his phone for communication records, they discovered a list of names associated with funding the PDF. According to the obtained list, a significant number of people from Thanpyuzayat township were implicated. However, not all of them have been apprehended yet. They initially targeted individuals with slightly more influence, and arrested them first,” he said.
A few hundred associated individuals are still subject to arrest.
“Houses and shops are closed, and many people are fleeing the town. Day by day, individuals are being arrested. There is already an uproar in the town, and I don’t know what will happen next. Currently, the condition of our Thanpyuzayat township is dire,” said one resident.
Following the arrest of U Ta Yout, there were reports of up to 70 people being held in Thanpyuzayat township, however the Independent Mon News Agency has not been able to independently confirm this.
Residents of Thanpyuzayat township are facing blockades, searches, and inspections by the military junta. As a result, few people are walking in the town, and there is a growing concern about potential arrests and searches.
According to the Association for the Assistance Political Prisoners (AAPP), over 800 civilians have been arrested in Mon State since the military coup.
