Fuel Issues Result limited Electricity Supply for Ye Township

-

According to local residents, the private company that distributes electricity in Ye Township, Mon State, is only distributing electricity part-time because it is difficult to purchase fuel.

On December 2, Myat Thura Company, a private electricity distribution company in Ye Township, announced that their service will be dependent upon the purchase of fuel.

Myat Thura Company announced that, starting from December 3rd, it will distribute electricity only between 7:30 AM to 11:00 AM and from 1:00 PM to 9:30 PM.

The Myat Thura company distributes electricity to about 10 villages in the southern region of Ye, including Ye township. This will cause more hardship for residents.

Similarly, the Northern Ye Electricity Distribution Service, which provides service to the Northern Ye region, announced that it will only provide electricity from 4:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. and from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The company also announced that any changes are dependent upon the availability of fuel.

In areas of Ye Township, where the main power grid does not reach, electricity distribution is done by either a private company and/or a village self-help system.

In Ye Township, electricity distribution is managed by Myat Thura Company, Southern Myanmar Development (SMD) Company, and Northern Ye Electricity Distribution Service. Due to the ongoing rise in fuel prices, the cost of electricity per unit has increased from 1800 Kyats to 2000 Kyats. In recent days, the military junta announced that private businesses will need to import fuel according to their own plan.
