Rubber plantation workers face difficulties due to tight security in Ye Township

-

According to local residents, rubber plantation and orchard workers are facing difficulties due to strict security measures imposed by the military junta in Ye township, Mon State.

In Ye township, rubber production is central to the economy, as is the growing of fruits, lemons, and betel nuts.

After clashes erupted between junta and revolutionary forces nationwide the military junta intensified its night patrols and inspections within and beyond the township. The military junta has also increased security in Mawlamyine and Mudon townships, where explosions and shootings have occurred.

As a result those working at rubber plantations and others who must also work nights have been arrested. A resident from Lamaing expressed concern, stating that he is fearful of being shot.

“Primarily, those facing difficulties are the farm workers, especially during the rubber scraping season. Typically, rubber scrapers operate exclusively at night.” One worker expressed their fears, “I’m afraid the military junta will arrest me if I use a flashlight on the road at night.”

A resident of Hnitkayin said that in Ye township, security has been tightened by the military junta, and the revolutionary forces have also increased their checks on passengers. This is making travel difficult.
