In Kyaikto Township, Mon State, nearly a thousand residents have been urgently evacuated due to heavy rains and stream flooding, according to the local and social relief groups.
Nearly a thousand local residents from low-lying neighborhoods were urgently evacuated due to flooding.
According to the social relief group, the evacuees were moved to a temporary relief camp set up in a monastery in Kyaikto township.
“After heavy rains, the creek overflows, flooding low-lying neighborhoods. The water has receded a little today, but we have to monitor the situation. People from flooded neighborhoods have been moved to monasteries. They have a lot of needs,” said a Kyaikto resident helping the refugees.
At present, there is an urgent requirement for drinking water, food, and medicine for the displaced individuals.
