A gold shop in Ye Township was robbed, with items worth hundreds of thousands of Kyat

The “Shwe La Wonn” gold shop inside Win Thuka gold shop, Yan Kyi Aung ward, Ye Township, Mon State, was robbed on the morning of June 13th and the robbers took a gold box, which was worth with hundres of thousands of Kyat, according to nearby residents.

At around 7:30 this morning, when the owner of the “Shwe La Wonn” gold shop was opening, two unknown men, carrying by a car, arrived in front of the shop and robbed a box of gold, according to people close to them.
“When I arrived at the store to open the store, the woman put two boxes of gold aside while the male shopkeeper was leaving the car, and while he was unlocking the store, an unknown man came in, took one box of gold, and drove away,” said a Ye resident.

He also added that the gold box that was robbed was a box containing platinum gold, which could be worth hundreds of thousands of Kyat in Burmese currency.

According to the residents, thefts, home burglaries, and robberies have been happening almost every day since the military coup, but that was the first time that a gold shop robbed.

Last May 2022, two unidentified armed men arrived at a gold shop in Ye Township, Mawkanin Village on a motorcycle and robbed the gold from the shop.

Similarly, Shwe Moe Taw gold shop in Thiri Myine ward, Mon State, Mawlamyine last May, and Shwe Own Bin gold shop at the top of Thiri Myine ward, No. 12 road in December 2022 were also robbed.

After the military coup, in addition to the looting of gold shops in Mon State, thefts and home burglaries are reported to be occurring continuously.
