Battle erupts in Tharyawaddy Village in Ye Phyu Township: Residents Flee

-

In Ye Phyu Township,  Tanintharyi Region an armed battle erupted between the SAC Military Council Army and the joint forces of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA).

This battle has been ongoing since the evening of May 31, causing local residents to flee the area. The villages of Ah Lel Sa Khan, Lawt Thaing and Tharyawaddy have been impacted.

On May 29, a battle began between the KNLA joint forces and SAC military council soldiers,  after approximately 12 military vehicles entered the area between  Lawt Thaing and Yar Puu villages.

According to a local interviewed by the Independent Mon News Agency, “There was a fight between the two sides yesterday evening from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., and again today at 10:30 a.m. We don’t know the current situation of either side.”

Due to the conflict villagers, particularly the elderly, women, and children from Marrawchai, Hlae Gate, Thae Taung, and Tharyarwaddy were evacuating to ensure their safety.

“Until this evening, we have not heard any more gunshots. However, the military council vehicles that entered yesterday have not yet turned back. So the battle is not over. It is in a position where it will continue,” stated a resident of Ah Lel Sa Khan village.

Ah Lel Sa Khan village serves as the base for the New Mon State Party in the Dawei district. Karen armed forces are also stationed here.
