One child killed, another injured as a result of military council heavy weapons fire

A 13-year-old child was killed, and an 8-year-old child was injured due to heavy weapons being fired by the Military Council in Kyaikdong town, Kawkareik Township, Karen State.

On May 25, at 2:30 p.m. the Kyaik Dong-based SAC military council forces fired 60-mm heavy weapons at a residential village, according to the KNU Center.

13-year-old Mg Than Naing Oo died as a result of the explosion of a shell fired by the Military Council at the Kyaik Dong town bridge crossing. An 8-year-old, Mg Than Oo is being treated at the hospital with wounds to his head and hands.

The KNU center announced that two other residents of Kamine Khone village in Kawkareik Township were also hit by the military council’s heavy weapons. According to the KNU there has been no fighting to warrant these attacks.

“We hear the sounds of heavy weapons every day. Kyondoe town was also targeted. There are people and homes that have been hit.” said a resident of Kyondoe.

On May 27th, a house and a car were damaged in Kyarinn Khone village located in Kawkareik township, and a house in Talwe Htaw village was damaged by the firing of 81 mm and 120 mm heavy weapons fire.

The area roads leading into Kawkareik, such as Kawkareik-Kyarinnseikkyi Township Road, Kyaik Dong Road, Kamine Khone Road have also been destroyed by military council troops since May 13th.
