Covid-19 Infections back in Mon State

According to officials within  the State Department of Public Health and Treatment, there is a resurgence of covid infections taking place  in Mon State.

Last March and April, more than 60 new cases of Covid-19 were found, and  all of them were with returnees who had been in other countries. In May, local infections were found again, according to a Public Health official.

From May 1 to 3, 43 confirmed cases of Covid-19 were found, and all of them were local infections.

“These patients were found to be sick when they came to the hospital,” said the official from the Public Health Department.

Confirmed Covid-19 patients, who are showing symptoms are being treated in the Isolation Ward (1) of Mawlamyine Public Hospital, while those without symptoms are being kept under Home Quarantine.

The Department of Public Health urges the public to follow the rules and regulations of the Covid-19 epidemic, as there is a possibility of a resurgence of the virus in May.

“People wear masks as usual. Wash your hands. Stay away from each other. The most important thing is to give a booster shot every (6) months after vaccination,” urged the Public Health official.

In 2022, there were more than 5,100 new cases of Covid-19 in Mon State, and more than 80 Covid-19 patients died, according to statistics from the State Public Health Department.
