Doctor arrested along with 3 others in drug seizure case

Police in Ye Town have made an arrest and seized drugs early in the morning of December 29, 2020.  The drugs were found in the  room of an assistant doctor who worked at one of the public hospitals in Ye Town.

“After receiving some information, our troops checked [the Doctors}  room and found some drugs in it. The case is being prosecuted under the law,” said Deputy Chief of Police Win Myint at Ye Town Station.

According to police the assistant Dr. Pyae Kyaw, approximately 28 years old, living in Aung Myint Thar ward in Ye Town, was arrested along with three young men.

Police found  27 pills with the  ‘WY’ brand embossed on pink colored pills, along with 6 pills with an “R” brand, also pink in color.   

“We are amazed that the drugs found were from the doctor [a profession] that we respect … I can’t believe it. Drugs are spreading in Ye Town. It can be bought with three and four thousand kyats. I’m worried these drugs are spreading amongst  young people,” said the headman Ko Zaw Myo Min (aka) Ko Ba Min of Aung Mingalar ward.

The individuals were  arrested by Ye Town Police Station and charged under Section 19 (K)/ 21 of the Criminal Procedure Code MY(P) 67 /2020.

Also, on December 23, over 30 meth pills and 0.7 g of ICE were seized from two siblings in Yeh Township’s Lamaing Town.

“After getting news, our force found the pills and made the arrest.  Now we work under the law,” said Chief of Police Nyan Lin at Lamaing area police station.

Ma Ni Lar Win (31) was arrested together with her younger brother Aung Soe Htew (27) when the police inspected her house in Lamaing’s Myoma (1) ward, in Ye Township. 

Both siblings are charged under Section 19 (K)/ 20/(K)/ 21 of the Criminal Procedure Code MY(P) 37 /2020.

According to Ye Town’s Police record in 2020, there were 124 drug related cases, 64 arrests were made  by the Ye Town Police,  37 cases were handled by the Lamaing police, and 23 cases by the Khawzar police.

In 2020, there were 771 cases from January until November, and 460 cases in 2019 in Mon State.
