A villager from Nine Prine Village, in Mudon Township, was arrested on December 16 for growing Kratom plants.
Deputy Chief of Police Aung Myo Tun, of Mudon Town Police Station said, “After getting [a tip] , we arrested him and found one big Kratom tree and another smaller one. We will arrest anyone involved in drug trafficking.”
The police arrested U Kan Htoo (aka) Soe Myint (51 years old) at his house, in Nine Prine Village. He has grown a number of Kratom plants, one measured roughly 11 inches in diameter and was 20 inches high. Another was about 2 inches in diameter and 5 inches high. Police also seized 2 kg of Kratom leaves.
The villager was arrested and charged by Mudon Town Police Station under Section 16 (K)/ 16 (G)/21 of the Criminal Procedure Code MY(P) 92/2020.
U Ha Lae, a Nine Prine villager, said, “The number of drug arrests has increased recently. We welcome these arrests. The young people are already in danger [due to drugs]. The parents are stressed [about their children’s exposure to these drugs] . It is good work to arrest as many as they can. I want them to arrest the big [wrong] doer.”
A Kratom grower from Thar Yar Gone Village was also arrested by the police on December 8.
According to the Mudon police there have been 150 drug cases in 2020. The arrests have included small time dealers and drug users, but so far, the main dealers have not yet been found.
