Juri-Chai – The scheduled time to cast advance ballots begins today, March 30th, meaning eligible advance voters start voting tonight, reported the All Mon Regions Democracy Party (AMDP).

“Our advance voting campaign starts this evening. We have to begin work tonight because we have so little time,” said Nai Ong Chan, the chief campaign officer for the AMDP.

At 6 p. m. on Friday night, the AMDP will start its advance voting campaign in Moulmein, focusing on wards largely inhabited by Mon nationals.

According to Nai Ong Chan, two representatives from the party can be present during the collection of advance votes, although the Election Commission Chairman stated that the representatives are not authorized to enter voters’ houses–they must remain outside.

The Election Commission of Mon State previously informed the Hluttaw (Parliamentary) candidates that advance ballots for the April 1st by-election could be cast on the 30th and 31st of March.

In some wards, citizens with travel plans tried to cast their advance ballots before 6pm, but the Commission Chairman refused and instructed them to cast their votes on their designated day, or “D-day.”

Under the observation of the Village/Ward Election Commissions, the people eligible to cast advance voting ballots are soldiers, police staff and civil servants who will be out of the polling area due to work, people with medical disabilities, women giving birth, and elderly who are unable to make the trip.

In the Moulmein constituency, there are 119 polling stations and over 160,000 constituents voting on the Pyithu Hluttaw seat.

The National League for Democracy (NLD), the All Mon Regions Democracy Party (AMDP), the National Unity Party (UNP) and the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) are contending for a parliamentary seat in the House of Representatives (Pyithu Hluttaw) in Moulmein constituency.
