More than 4,000 pass Mon region-wide summer Mon language examination

-

More than 4,000 students passed the 27th Mon region-wide Summer Mon Language Examination organized by the Mon Literature and Culture Committee, according to committee officials.

The Mon region-wide Summer Mon Language Examination was held on May 21 at the Sasana 2500 Mon Monastery in Mawlamyine.

A total of 5,589 students registered to sit for the examination. However, due to various reasons, only 5,105 students took the exam, and 4,442 passed.

According to the official results, among the more than 4,000 students who passed, 35 received outstanding achievement awards, while 142 successfully passed all Mon history levels.

The chair of the Mon regional Mon language teaching committee, Venerable Bhaddanta Silawanta, said he was pleased with the high number of successful candidates and noted that it would strengthen future efforts to teach the Mon language.

“These children have demonstrated a thorough understanding of Mon history. We believe that with this knowledge, they will be able to contribute in different ways in the future to preserving and protecting Mon literature, culture, ethnicity, religion, and Buddhism,” the Sayadaw said.

During the 26th Mon region-wide Summer Mon Language Examination held last year, more than 4,000 students took the exam, but only around half passed. This year, however, the pass rate reached nearly 90 percent.

Students from Kyaikmaraw, Thanbyuzayat, Ye Township, and Hpa-An won the highest number of awards across the six Mon history levels.

A ceremony to honor award-winning students and those who passed the examination was held on May 31 at Sasana 2500 Monastery in Mawlamyine.
