Nearly 100 Homes Damaged by Strong Winds in Paung Township

-

A powerful windstorm struck Paung town in Mon State at around 7:45 a.m. today, July 24, damaging nearly 100 homes, according to local residents.

The worst-hit areas include Paung Ward, Win Kha Lone Ward, Dawei Su and Moe Nine Karen Ward. Locals report widespread destruction, including fallen trees and downed electricity poles.

A woman was also injured during the incident and has been transported to Paung Hospital by local rescue teams.

Fallen trees along the Yangon-Mawlamyine highway have caused traffic blockages, adding to the disruption in the area.

The windstorm follows several days of continuous heavy rain in Paung Township, with the severe weather worsening this morning due to strong gusts of wind.

Reports also indicate that nearby Thaton Township experienced wind damage as well, though details on the extent of destruction are still being verified.

The Independent Mon News Agency will continue to monitor and report updates on the situation across Mon State.
