Students Transferring from Mon National Schools to Government Schools Only Temporarily Accepted

-

Students transferring from Mon National Schools to government schools are being accepted only on a temporary basis, according to a teacher from a Mon National School.

Due to changing circumstances, some families have relocated to urban areas and enrolled their children in government schools. However, school officials reportedly informed parents that these students are being accepted temporarily, pending further verification of their records.

A teacher from a Mon National School in town said, “the students are allowed to attend classes, but their enrollment is only temporary because their personal information is still under review. If everything checks out, they will be officially recognized as full-time students. Otherwise, they will be considered external students allowed to attend classes and take exams, but not officially enrolled.”

The Mon National Education Department maintains a working relationship with the government education department, allowing students to transfer between Mon National Schools and government schools.

However, in the 2025–2026 academic year, government schools under the military junta have begun inspecting for students and staff affiliated with the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM). As a result, the process of transferring students from Mon National Schools to government schools has become more difficult.

While some schools have managed the process smoothly, others continue to face delays and complications.

“In the past, transferring students in our Ye Township was difficult. But now that the government school has accepted the students, the process has gone more smoothly,” said a teacher from a Mon National School in Ye Township.

There are currently 130 Mon National Schools, including Mon National College, operating under the Mon National Education Department, with around 800 teachers across various levels.
