Three local men from Kanyonkyun village, Tanintharyi Region, Launglon Township, remain in detention nearly a month after they were arrested by a military junta column stationed in the area, according to local sources.
Troops from the military junta reportedly occupied Kanyonkyun village in early June. During their deployment, they arrested over 100 villagers. Most detainees were released on June 25, the day the troops withdrew from the area. However, three young men from the village are still being held.

“Apart from those three from Kanyonkyun, everyone else has been released. We don’t know why they’re still detained,” said a local resident.
The detained individuals are believed to be residents of Kanyonkyun, Kahtaungni, and Nyinmaw villages. They were reportedly taken from their homes when the junta forces arrived.
According to local resistance groups, the junta troops not only arrested villagers but also executed some detainees along the way and looted valuable items from homes.
Although the military column has since returned to its base in Launglon town, some villagers are still too afraid to return home.
“Some people who were in hiding have come back, but others are still afraid and remain in hiding,” the resident added.
On the afternoon of June 27, the junta’s navy reportedly fired heavy artillery from boats toward several villages in the southern part of Launglon Township, according to local sources.
