Two Civilians Killed Amid Ongoing Clashes in Kyonlaung Village

-

Two civilians were reportedly killed near Kyonlaung village in Ye Township, Mon State, where clashes have been ongoing between the military junta and revolutionary coalition forces since January 9.

Local sources confirmed that the military junta’s troops killed the two civilians on the same day the fighting began. Their bodies were discovered near the road connecting Kyonlaung village and Aie Bote. However, the victims’ identities remain unknown, as villagers were too fearful to approach the bodies.

“Around January 9, locals informed us about two civilian bodies left by the roadside. They were too scared to get close and could only report what they saw from a distance. We don’t know exactly when the killings happened,” a local source said.

The military junta has escalated its operations in the area, using mortar shelling and airstrikes to attack Kyonlaung and nearby villages. Reports indicate additional junta troops have been deployed to the region.

The violence has forced residents from at least five villages, including Weibai and Weizin, to flee to safer areas. Roads in the vicinity remain blocked, and military checkpoints have tightened security, further restricting movement for locals.

Kyonlaung and surrounding areas continue to face intensified fighting, leaving the local population in a state of fear and displacement.
