A refugee camp area supported by the Nippon Foundation located in the New Mon State Party (NMSP) controlled area of Yechaungphyar was bombed by a military airstrike.
According to a resident at roughly 1:00 a.m. on June 18th, the military aircraft dropped two 500-pound bombs on the refugee camp area.
No one was killed or injured in the attack. However, four houses in the refugee camp were destroyed.
Bomb fragments also damaged the Mon primary school and several plantation trees.
The local resident said that people quickly ran away after the first bomb exploded, which helped them avoid being hit when the second bomb was dropped.
“Luckily, there were no casualties. After the first bomb, people rushed out of their homes and ran for safety. The second bomb did not hit anyone. Four houses were destroyed, and the primary school was slightly damaged. Almost the whole village was affected,” the source said.
After the airstrike, some residents who had recently returned to their villages were forced to flee again to safer places.
Residents said the area is no longer safe because military aircraft can carry out airstrikes at any time.
“Yechaungphyar is no longer a place where people can feel safe. The aircraft made almost no sound. We only heard the plane after the bombs were dropped. People should stay in safer areas because it is not safe to return to those villages yet,” the source said.
On June 3rd, the military junta also carried out an airstrike near the Nippon Foundation refugee camp, killing one civilian.
